In this practical 3 hour workshop, Amy and Kevin will share a range of activities and techniques designed to enhance students’ speaking and listening skills. Drawing from their own experience as classroom teachers and from working with schools around the world, they will guide participants in exploring their own listening skills and move to experiential activities that teachers will be able to develop for their own use in the classroom. Building from mindful awareness training, we will use various dialogue protocols to develop social-emotional skills and help create a safe space for a more empathetic and supportive classroom community. Together we will explore the broad potential for applying these transferable skills across the school curriculum and we will share a number of classroom tips for dealing with the challenges that can arise when teaching these types of activities in school.
